Autumn is, in my humble opinion, the best season of the year. The beautiful leaves, crisp weather, and awesome produce simply cannot be beaten – especially freshly picked apples.
Throw a flannel on, round up the crew, and get ready to eat some donuts and cider, because it’s time to go apple picking!
I’ve compiled a list of the best apple orchards in Maine for picking your own apples.
All orchards on this list offer a pick your own option for fresh apples. Many also offer additional pick your own options, such as blueberries, peaches, pumpkins, and pears.
At the top of this list, you’ll find the best 8 (in no particular order) apple orchards in Maine to turn your apple picking into a “full day out.” These orchards offer additional activities for fun with family or friends, like corn mazes, hayrides, restaurants, live music, and crafts.
After that are an additional 27 apple orchards in Maine that offer pick your own apples!
I’ve added orchards from all over the state. Despite living in several different regions of the state during the fall months, I’ve never heard of most of these!
Hopefully, this list will make it easier to find an apple orchard that is close to you, so you don’t have to drive an hour or two to the closest *well-known* orchard.

3 Tips For Visiting Apple Orchards in Maine
1. ALWAYS check the website or Facebook page on the same day you plan to visit.
Although orchards often have set hours during the fall, they are subject to change depending on the weather, apple availability, and staffing.
During my research, I found that most orchards in Maine update their Facebook page more often than their website, so I’ve listed both. If you’re still not sure about something, it never hurts to call!
2. Bring cash.
Most orchards only accept cash or check. Several have ATMs on-site, and I’ve indicated that in the list below.
Many orchards don’t specify on their website, so I think it’s better to be prepared with cash just to be sure!
3. Make sure apple picking equipment is provided.
Most orchards provide picking containers or equipment if needed. However, some ask that you bring your own containers, bags, gloves, or shears (depending on what you are picking!).
Especially with COVID still being a concern, I suggest either asking ahead of time if bags are provided, or bring some of your own just in case.
I’ve tried my best to list the most accurate and up-to-date information here, but please always do your own due diligence!
